Teaching about misogyny, masculinity and stereotypes

What’s the situation?

The past couple of years have seen a marked rise in popularity of influencers who promote hateful and often misogynistic views amongst young people. Andrew Tate is perhaps the most well-known of these but the issues go much deeper and further than him as shown by the manosphere – a range of websites, blogs, and online forums that promote stereotyped versions of masculinity, misogyny, and opposition to feminism.

But why do some boys/young men seem to be aligning with this messaging? And what can educators do to hold space for these conversations and address the harm of these views?

Take a look at some of our resources to learn more about it…

How can Brook help?

EDUCATION SESSION

Online Misogyny, Real World Impacts

Lessons that challenge misogyny will form part of the updated Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) guidance which should be published before the end of the academic year 2025.

Brook Education Specialists deliver the lesson, Online Misogyny, Real World Impacts, to Year 10 and 11. This lesson raises awareness of the harmful impacts of online misogyny and encourages students to develop bystander skills to challenge gender-based abuse online.

For other year groups we offer related lessons on topics such as Online Safety & Youth-Produced Sexual Imagery, and Gender & stereotypes. Our friendly team can help work out which session would be most beneficial to your school’s unique needs.
