drinkawareParty Season Survival

December and January is a always an exciting time of year, there are always lots of parties to go to and opportunies to spend time with your mates.

You will probably enjoy a drink or two and you might even meet someone that you fancy. But just so you know, more teenagers get pregnant in December and January than any other time of year. So whilst you’re having fun, it is important that you make sure that you are staying safe too.

Tips for staying safe this party season

Stick with your mates

You are less likely to get into trouble if you and your mates look out for each other. Plan to go home together and it’s always advisable for one of the group to stay in control to make sure no-one wanders off alone.

Be prepared

Make sure you mobile phone is topped up with credit so if you do get into trouble you can call a friend or parent.

Pace yourself

For every alcoholic drink you, have a glass of water or soft drink like Coke or fruit juice. This will keep you hydrated and stop you getting drunk so quickly.

Eat before you go out

Food slows down the absorption of alcohol into your bloodstream to stop you feeling out of control.

Carry a condom

If you choose to have sex, a condom is the best way to protect yourself against STIs and unplanned pregnancies. It’s best to carry one just in case.
