Most people with penises will have problems getting or staying hard at some point in their lives. It doesn’t necessarily mean a loss of interest in sex or that there’s something wrong. Most of the time, these difficulties are due to stress and are temporary. There’s no need to feel bad about not having an erection. It’s natural, and there are lots of ways to have sex which don’t require an erect penis. If you find that you’re regularly having difficulty maintaining erections, and this is affecting your mental health, then you may want to speak to your GP.
Stoptober is the annual campaign to help smokers quit for 28 days or more🚭 We all know about the negative impact of smoking on our lungs – but did you know that cigarettes and vapes can have a negative impact on your sex life, too? Cigarette smoke is full of toxic chemicals, which can impact loads of things from your hormones and sex drive to your ability to get pregnant. Even vapes can cause problems, because the nicotine in them limits the amount of blood that flows to all parts of your body. If you`d like help to quit smoking, the NHS offers free local stop smoking services. Your GP, pharmacist or health visitor can refer you. You can also search online to find your local stop smoking service, and phone them to make an appointment.
If you think you have heavy periods and they’re affecting your life, don’t suffer in silence. Your GP will help explore if there’s an underlying cause, and can suggest treatments that mean you don’t have to dread this time of the month. You can also talk to other people around you, such as friends and family. This can help reduce stigma – and you might find out that someone you know also experiences heavy periods!
You guessed it: yep! ✅ You can get pregnant even on your period because sperm can live for up to ~five days~ in the body. If you don’t want to get pregnant, you should make sure you’re using contraception each time you have vaginal sex.Condoms are the only method of contraception that prevent STIs as well as unwanted pregnancy. The pill, which you take each day, can prevent unwanted pregnancy. There are also long-term options such as the injection or the vaginal ring that can help give you peace of mind. Emergency contraception can help prevent unwanted pregnancy if you’ve had unprotected vaginal sex or if your contraception fails, like if a condom breaks. To order condoms, and read more about other contraception and emergency contraception options, head to our website (link in bio🔗).
In recent years, professionals in sexual health and relationships have noticed a sharp rise in the number of people, particularly those aged 16-35, engaging in non-fatal strangulation (NFS) during sex ⚠️ What was once considered an extreme act, even within kink and BDSM communities that are known for strong consent practices, has now become far more mainstream. Worryingly, it’s becoming really common among younger people who are less experienced with sex and still learning about consent. Strangling someone is never safe. Restricting blood and oxygen to the brain can have serious short- and long-term consequences. Choking can also cause a life-threatening medical emergency.
By filling in our short, anonymous survey, you’ll help us to improve Yuno and make the service more accessible🤝 You can find both the standard and Easy Read online surveys via the links in our bio. The more responses we get, the more information we’ll have about what’s working, what’s not, and what you want to see more of!

🗣️”We do care about your feelings, we just don’t understand them.”For Sexual Health Week, comedian Dom Hatton-Woods talked to us about a common misconception around autism and connection. For neurodivergent people, relationships and connection can sometimes be harder to figure out. Dom’s autism means he sometimes struggles to understand what he means to people and how others perceive him.Empathy and understanding are crucial to connection. All of us, whether we’re neurodivergent or not, experience and perceive connection differently in both platonic and romantic relationships. #SHW26
